San Bernardino Mountain Community

Apartments in Forest Falls, CA

Welcome to Forest Falls, a small mountain community in the San Bernardino Mountains, beneath the granite peaks of the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Forest Falls is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, set deep in the San Bernardino Mountains along the steep canyon of Mill Creek, a tributary of the Santa Ana River. The community rises from roughly 5,000 to 6,000 feet in elevation, about 21 miles from San Bernardino and 75 miles east of the Los Angeles Civic Center. The community's origins lie in the mountain resort era. In the late nineteenth century, the Forest Home resort was founded in the canyon, and separate small settlements—Valley of the Falls, Fallsvale, and Forest Home—eventually merged. The post offices of Forest Home and Fallsvale combined in 1960 under the single name "Forest Falls." Today the historic Forest Home property continues as the Forest Home Christian Conference Center. Forest Falls is often called "Little Yosemite" for its granite walls, waterfalls, and dramatic canyon scenery. The community is a key gateway to the San Gorgonio Wilderness and the Sand to Snow National Monument, with the Vivian Creek Trail to San Gorgonio and the Momyer Trailhead nearby. Big Falls, reached from the upper end of Valley of the Falls Road, is one of the area's signature destinations. With roughly 1,100 residents and several hundred homes, Forest Falls is a small mountain settlement surrounded by national forest land. Its development is constrained by the terrain, giving it a stable, close-knit character of mountain cabins and year-round homes strung along Mill Creek's canyon. For residents, Forest Falls offers four-season mountain living, easy access to some of Southern California's highest peaks, and a distinct step away from the urban basins below—while remaining within reach of the San Bernardino Valley by way of State Route 38.
