Dublin is a suburban city in Alameda County, California, in the Amador Valley at the heart of the Tri-Valley region of the East Bay. It lies about 35 miles east of San Francisco at the junction of Interstates 580 and 680, a position that has made it both a commuter hub and a growing residential and commercial center. The city covers roughly 15 square miles and has a population of about 72,600. Dublin's history reaches back to the mid-1800s, when the area was part of Mexican land-grant ranchos and later a crossroads settlement on the road into the Livermore Valley. Dublin Heritage Park preserves that early chapter, including the 1859 St. Raymond Church and the Pioneer Cemetery. In the twentieth century, Camp Parks — now the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area — became a major military presence, and its ongoing role remains part of the city's identity, documented at the Dublin Camp Parks Military History Center. Today Dublin is defined by its transportation connections. The Dublin/Pleasanton and West Dublin/Pleasanton BART stations sit along Interstate 580, providing direct rail service to Oakland and San Francisco, while the nearby Pleasanton station adds Altamont Corridor Express service toward San Jose. LAVTA Wheels buses and the I-580/I-680 freeway interchange round out the network. Residentially, Dublin offers a mix of older central neighborhoods and newer master-planned communities such as Dublin Ranch, along with transit-oriented apartments and townhomes near BART. The Dublin Unified School District serves more than 12,000 students. Recreation ranges from Dublin Heritage Park to The Wave water park and a network of city parks and sports fields. The combination of freeway and rail access, modern housing, and a strong school district makes Dublin a central, convenient address in the Tri-Valley.
